Charlie Moreland 30 Dec 2012

Post by Dave »

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay in the trip report. It's been a busy time. Anyway, the lucky people who were able to come along were :
  • Glibert & Coby,
    Andy and Ugalene
    Paul and Hanneke,
    Mark and Arie,
Ben, Jane, Hunter, Magnus and Axel,
    Ben and Mariana,
David, Melinda, Fiona, Chris, Andrew and Robert.
After the departure from the BP on the highway, we drove via a slightly damp Maleny to arrive at Charlie Moreland. Having decided to first explore some tracks near the entrance, we quickly found ourselves surrounded by green on some fairly easy tracks. Although, the first challenge was how to turn around after hitting a dead-end.
Image

Someone forget to do the weeding on some tracks.
Image

It wasn't too long before we came across deeper rutted tracks.
Image

Lunch was back at Charlie Moreland's day-use area. The kids were showing us how to drive over fallen branches.
Image

After lunch, we drove back along the track many people tested before during the Christmas function, but this time in the dry. Many of the group were adventureous enough to try a more difficult side track.
Image

But what is this rare creature coming up the track? Ahhh ... the rare Red Holden-Frontera-ous. And it raced up the track in one go.

Image

The track was so steep further up ahead, it was easier to walk back down to the side of the track.
Image

Ben with his 80 got up the track (yeah ... lockers needed), but then had a good reversing exercise further ahead. But no-one on this track ran into real difficulty. Just some racing heartbeats though. Dave even got his family to jump out of the car when coming down an interesting but steep section (it's in the video :lolno: ).

We then drove along the main track to reach the corner where cars were sliding down during the Christmas function event. But in the dry, it was a very easy section.
Image

We made it up to the top of the hill, passing some very nice rainforest.
Image

But time was passing quickly, so we sadly had to turn back to go home. Feedback from the group was that everyone had a good day, and all track levels tested.

And here is a video of the trip ... only 99 seconds long (and 5 hours to edit  )

Cheers
Dave.

Great trip report. I reckon I had to reverse 500 meters down that hill. A great day out.

I also see you found a way to block out number plates.

You'll have to tell me how you did that.

Nice work Dave and thanks from Mariana and I for a fun day out in the sticks.
I have a video of you making your way down the ruts from the back if your interested. I was going to upload it but after doing some research on blocking out number plates etc I put it in the too hard basket. Let me know if you want it, its 50meg but i can reformat it and email. It could be worth having because you can hear Mark guiding you down over the radio.
Cheers Ben and Mariana and Indiana

Hi Mariana,
Yes - I'm really like a copy of the video. Would it be possible to put a copy on a USB drive and bring it along to the next outing (26th of Jan??). I usually have a laptop with us to copy the file.

Thanks
Dave.
