It all began at McDonald's Beaudesert on Saturday morning (everyone seems to be getting there earlier and earlier).
The day trippers were: the Jackson family - and Ben's work colleague Dave and his family, Coby and Gilbert, Arie and myself
The campers were: Greg and Renee, Louis and family
Leaving McDonalds we had a leisurely, scenic drive to Flannagans where the campers pitched their "tents" whilst the rest of us explored the fast flowing creek and rocks. Dave's kids brought out their rock-crawling remote control car and gave us a demonstration.
From there we headed off to find a track up the back of Mt Barney. After taking a wrong turn and encountering a very animated local who put us on the right path, we turned off and were dodging cow paddys on our way to our destination. The going was pretty easy but with a few steep ascents, and we did find an interesting little diversion where we got to see Louis' love of the right foot.
We headed from there to Maroon Dam for lunch and then off toward Boonah to do a track from 4x4 Earth. It started as a very scenic drive a long a ridge line past some propertys with amazing views of the valleys below. It wasn't long though untill we were following some very overgrown tracks south east through the hills toward Kooralbyn. We eventually made it to a private property sign and could go no further.
This is where the fun began. On the return, Ben found a nice looking side track that 4 of us decide to take while Dave and Gilbert decided to return on the main track. The track started off nicely with some trcky little sections and then suddenly became overgrown no signs of the track present except for the clearing. It wasnt long before Ben had us lost, beeping his horn to see if Dave and Gilbert could hear us. It was like a giant game of marco polo. After 5 to 10 minutes of this, Ben thought he was getting us out when we heard Dave and Gilbert on the radio saying that they could see us in the distance, driving in the completely wrong direction away from them.
After all the excitement of Ben's expert navigational skills, we started making our way home. We had a quick stop at "Ketchups Glamping" to see what it was all about. Also found out that there are plans for an old 4wd park in the area to be reopened.
I was a bit lax at taking photos, but Louis wife took to being the official photog for the day, so hopefully they post some pictures.
