Better late than never...
I left home with, what I thought, was enough time to get to the meeting point early, but no I ended up there last an hence I'm doing the trip report.
Don suggested that we get to Beaudesert via Ripley Rd. This turned out to be a nice dirt road that connects Ipswich with Beaudesert. After some early car sickness from Magnus we continued on until we got a detour because of a washed out bridge. It had been washed out for quite some time I am told.
After a quick stop in Beaudesert we continued on to Duck Creek Road. Surprisingly I remembered the way to go and we got to the base of the climb in short order.
Now this was a Sunday on a long weekend so I expected a few other cars about. However I was a little surprised to see how many cars were on the track. In fact there was even some slow stop-start traffic on the lower slopes.

We stopped at the main lookout.

Dave even got out his quad-copter for a little fly around out over the lookout.

Heaps more traffic on the rest of the way up. Last time I was here the track was all cleaned up and all of the side tracks were neatly closed off with barbed wire and logs. This time the track was a bit worn and there were heaps of opened up side tracks. We didn't go down any as we were behaving ourselves (some of us didn't want to get any scratches).
At the top the car park was chock full and most people were circling around looking for parks. I dropped Jane and the kids off at the top to find a BBQ and found a park at the side of the road close by. Dave quickly grabbed a spot behind me. Lucky as Don had to go all the way back to the camp ground to get a park.
After a nice lunch, we decided to go home the same way. I find it is much quicker that wan than by going down the main road - especially with all that traffic.
Twas a great day out and the first outing for the new big red Prado!
