Booloumba Falls day trip 16th October

The day started in Kilcoy, Yowie country.

The group started with our fearless hairy leader Don, the much fairer Tracy, Ben and I (I arrived 20 minutes early and I still have to write the trip report).

The plan was to drive Sunday Creek Rd to Charlie Mooreland via Booloumba Falls. Not long after hitting the dirt though, a side track was spotted.

Yes that is a sight I didn't think I would see - the new prado getting oh so close to some lantana (did I hear a screech of fresh paint work being left behind?)

We then continue to explore further, going through dry forest and then rainforest. We soon found some freshly back burnt bush (so fresh in one area the flames could still be seen). This then opened into some beautiful green bushland/paddocks that had been burn not long ago.

And then back into forest

We eventually made if back on the the main road and were soon taking the turnoff for Booloumba falls. There were signs saying the bridge was closed so we though we would go and check out why. When we arrived, the bridge is intact but with great big steel bollards on both sides, no one is going across that thing. We thought this would be a great spot to stop for lunch, so we all took it down to the edge of the creek.

After lunch we continued on toward Charlie Mooreland. We turned off onto another track that Don wanted to explore, and it wasn't long before Ben and I started to feel like we had been here before. This is when the driving got a little more interesting and I am afraid I didn't get any more photos (but I am sure Don and Tracy got some). There was a little mud, some tight turns, some steep climbs and some very steep rutted climbs that we decided were not wise to tackle. We eventually made away back to the main campsite at Charlie Moreland to air up and head toward home. In the end we did not make the falls, but we did have great time.

I definitely feel we need to head back here to camp. There is so much to explore and some fun tracks to do for all levels.

Oh, and finally dont let Jane see this one as Ben may never be allowed on a trip again. Start polishing Ben ;)

Looks like you had some pretty interesting tracks and scenery. It terrible I wasn't available for that trip.

If I zoom right into that 2nd photo, is that some red paint on the lantana on the left? :lolno:
Thanks for the trip report Mark. We will have to plan another trip to explore of the area.

Yeah - even though Booloumba Falls was the trip title - we didn't actually make the falls - too many interesting diversions along the way.
Oh well - it can be part of another trip. Here are a few photos that Tracey snapped along the way.

An interesting bridge that needed checking out before crossing.

Lunch was certainly at a scenic spot.

Not far from Charlie Morelands - Ben and I took the chicken track - not Mark!
Image

The track had the appearance that it had more bike traffic than 4WD.
Image

Not even Mark was going to try this bog hole - it was deeeep.
Image

The Chicken track was really tight - but we persevered.

A few snaps from further along. (Tracey didn't take photos of one of the downhill sections - she had her eyes shut)
