Glasshouse Mountains day trip - 5th of Feb

It was another warm and mostly sunny morning when Cos, Ben, Don and Dave meet at the BP ready for good Glasshouse Mountains trip. Dave took the group via a scenic route to the Glasshouse lookout, and eventually stopped at Big Red. After having a quick look, and then airing down tires, we headed off the playground on the other side of the main road.

Here Dave had a good at one of the tracks, and made it up with only one* hit on the left front recovery point.
Cos then tested the next track, but the ground was so powdery dry, even a rear locker didn't help in one location.

But this presented an opportunity to test the new winch.

Don had a go on the same track. Traction control helped, but was still a bit of a challenge due to the slope and powdery dirt on the surface.

After bypassing a track that had some smelly mud holes, we faced a few more challenging tracks. The vehicles seemed to like some rocks, with Don testing his rock sliders on one particle rock. With a bit of road building, Don vehicle easier climbed the rock. You can see the size in the photo. Naturally, photos don't show the true slope or depth of the ruts.

We ended up having a late lunch at the top of hill in the shade of a few tall trees. A gentle breeze helped, but it was still relatively hot and humid.

It was another interesting trip to the Glasshouse mountains, and everyone appeared to enjoy the challenges.

* At the end of the trip, Cos's running board had a couple of tears in the rubber, Don's rock slider had a few scuff marks, and Ben had few new scratches on the rear bumper. Dave thought his vehicle made it without any new scratches. But while washing his vehicle, he noticed a sizable scuff mark on the left side of the bulbar. It must have happened on that first track in the playground. So it was definitely a typical Glasshouse mountains trip.

When I got home after the trip and washed down Bluebell, all I wanted to do was sleep - not Dave. He was up writing trip reports!
It was a terrific but somewhat hot and humid day. But it was a good day for Cos to try out some of the new toys he has added - bash plates, winch etc, and Dave had a new toy he was keen to show!! We'll no doubt see more of it on future trips.
It was a day that was way too hot for roadbuilding - at least that was how it looked from the air conditioned cab while the guys put rocks under my back wheel after I slipped sidewise into a big rock.... they seemed a tad sweaty. And my Rock Sliders have been christened!! :D
Cos' step was a little less robust than my slider - I hope the dent comes out ok...
The play area at Big Red was certainly more powdery than I remember, and the holes seemed deeper - but a lot of fun:

Shots of Ben and Cos from different angles at the same bend.

Dave's Prado was in it's element along the track.

At lunchtime Dave brought out his new toy - a top line Drone that seemed like it wouldn't be out of place in some military outfit!
Ben was wrapped, and immediately phoned Santa and put in his request - so Santa can start saving for next Christmas!!

In spite of the heat, it was a great day - we all came away with a few little battle scars.
Many Thanks to Dave for organising a trip like that at such short notice!

Great pics Dave and Don. It was a great fun day even if a little hot.
I might eventually be able to get a DJI mavic Pro but i'm afraid Mariana has baulked at picking up an extra one for Don at the same time.
Sorry Don, no idea why she suddenly changed her mind.............cough $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ cough.

Thanks Dave for organising the trip, love getting out to Glasshouse and looking forward as well to Rainbow Beach.

Nice photos Don. The photos never show the true slope. ;)

Good to hear people enjoyed the trip. We will have to do it again to explore other tracks when it's a bit cooler.

Cheers
Dave.

Thanks for organizing the trip at such short notice so I could try out the upgrades to the Navarra Dave. I had fun and didn't do any serious damage. Thanks for the trip report too. I like the photos Dave & Don. Rainbow beach should be good. That will be a first for the Navarra too, I haven't taken it on the beach yet.

Cheers,

Cos.
