Gordon Country 23rd & 24th March 2019

Thanks to Don for organising a good weekend away in the Gordon Country. Cos and his mate Andy met up with Don & Tracy, their daughter and family, Hailey, Tim & Chelsea at Aratula. Don had Cos slightly concerned when he wasn’t there early as usual but he turned up on time.
From Aratula Don lead the way on the 70 minute drive to Gordon Country where we met Keri. We got checked in pretty quickly despite it being busy. The good thing about the Gordon Country is that there is so much space even when they are busy with a wedding like this weekend you can still find a fairly quiet spot. We chose a different campsite than we’d stayed at before. The name escapes me as I managed to lose my map of the park but it was a nice spot right next to a creek.

After setting up camp and having lunch we went for a drive out on the tracks via the playpen. There were a few steep tracks but they weren’t difficult. There was one long steep downhill section that I struggled to get down safely but I got there in the end. We got up to over 1,000 metres and had some fantastic views along the way.

We stayed on the tracks for a few hours taking getting back to the campsite in daylight giving us time to cook dinner and get the fire started before it got dark. It was a very pleasant evening spent around the fire. There were storms around but the rain held off despite some thunder.

Sunday morning saw us take a leisurely drive up to a view point along the tracks on the other side of park. We avoided the steepest hill this time allowing us to get back to camp late morning to pack up camp and head home with plenty of time to wash the cars.
Cheers,
Cos.
