Mt Mee - Sunday 20th June 2021

Post by GridPack »

The weather at 8:30am was looking perfect and Mark and Ariella, were already sitting at a table at the Dayboro Bakery when Cos, Don, Tracey and Chelsea and guests Terry and Allison joined them for coffee and cakes. The bakery was quite busy with other groups heading out and about enjoying the weather.
We headed North West out of town via Upper Laceys Creek through some pretty countryside then into the D'Aguila National Park.

We passed the Jeep Club while they were airing up and we saw them on and off through the day. We pushed on a bit to get a bit ahead, and the tracks were dry and firm so we didn't air up till well along the track - to improve comfort for some of the softer of us.

We found a lookout high up in the park near a communications tower - though the Jeep Club caught up with us at that stage and the quiet little spot became quite busy.

One of the tracks that we thought may have been closed was open and obviously well used. Although there were a few steep and rutted sections, the tracks were dry, solid and no problem. At some stage during the morning we left the National Park for the Mt Mee State Forest.

We stopped for lunch at "The Gantry" . A great spot but we certainly didn't have it to ourselves. The Jeep Club, A mini Club, a Ladies 4wd club "Yeah the Girls" as well as other groups were all there enjoying the facilities and open spaces.

After lunch Mark guided us to a lookout on the western side of the range that gave a view out to Lake Somerset.

Mark led us through a few more interesting tracks in the North Western Section of the State Forest before we headed back to the Gantry to air up. Thanks to Mark and Arie for taking us out to a relatively close set of great tracks in a very nice part of the world.

Thanks for the write up Don. It was a good day - if not a little cool at times.

I didn't get many photos but I did catch this one of Cos with a nice view in the background.
