Bellthorpe area exploration. Sunday 12th February 2023

Post by BenJancz »

On the 12th of Feb 2023 Breakaway arranged to meet at Yowie Park in Kilcoy, unfortunately (for me) I arrived at 8:40 so have voulnteered to do the trip report.
Meeting in Kilcoy were;
Don, Tracey and Chelsea in his FJ Cruiser
Dave and Chris in their Prado
Cos in his ute
Terry in his 79, and,
Mariana Indy and myself in our FJ.

My exploreOz app tells me that this is the route we took from kilcoy to charlie Morelands

Straight off the Highway we first turned into Sandy creek Road where we didn't get too far before deciding to air down. I'm not sure if we aired down while still on Sandy Creek Road or if it had already turned into Goodla Road by this time.
Image
Most of the drive was along Bellthorpe Road with a quick jaunt up the South Goods fire Management Trail to see if an old fallen tree was still there (it wasn't). The tracks were mostly dry with the odd mud patch to go through.
Image
We made a quick comfort stop in Jimna where the Kids took the opportunity to grab a bight to eat, and an Ice-cream. Special thanks to Don and Tracey who offered to take Indy in their car to be with Chelsea. Over the radio it sounded like they were having a blast.
Image
After a quick bight to eat we continued onward to Charlie Morelands along Sunday Creek Road that was predominantly dusty the entire length. The temperature outside had reached 38 degrees by this stage. One of the funniest things i had seen all day was Chris Shutting the back door on the Prado and disappearing in a cloud of dust. Dons car (leader) was the least dusty and Daves car (tail end Charlie) was the dustiest.
Image
After having some lunch at Charlie morelands there was still enough time to go for a quick dip in the creek where the kids continued to have a blast.
Image
All too soon it was time to head back home in time for dinner. The traffic was pretty good too considering the time and temperature.
Thanks Don for organizing the trip, we all had a ball.
Cheers Ben and Mariana and Indiana

Great trip report Ben. It was a great day out. We survived the warmth, but thankfully the humidity seemed relatively low. We saw 39 degrees on the road out from Charlie Morelands.

In the next day or two, I'll post a photo of our attempt to clean the car. It worked reasonably well.

Cheers
David.

Great trip report Ben.
It certainly was a pretty area, and we'll have to make more trips up that way.
And Chelsea is counting down the days this month because I foreshadowed another trip where she may see Indy next month.

I have a few extra photos:

I suspect someone may have some drama here when it was a bit wetter.

A couple of nice little creek crossings up that way.

Great trip report Ben.

Here's a few photos of some little critters I found next to the waterhole at Charlie Morlands.
