Bribie Island Sunday 23rd April 2023

Post by BenJancz »

Hi all, it's been 2 years since we have been to Bribie Island as a club. So I am planning an afternoon trip to the Island. There are whispers that the access along the beach up to the Forts has finally re-opened, the centre track however remains closed. High tides on the 23rd are at about 9:50am and 10:30pm. I tossed up going on the 16th, however this is the last day of the holidays and the M1 will most likely be a carpark on the way home.

The plan is to meet at the carpark just behind the BP Servo (BP, Cnr Goodwin Dve & Hornsby Rd Hornsby Road, Bribie Island QLD 4507) at 2pm. We will then head to the beach access just past Woorim and air down. The more adventurous among us may prefer to drive the track at 40psi. We can then Cruise up the Beach to the forts checking out the lagoons on the way. On the way back we will stop at one of the lagoons again for a BBQ Lunch so bring some snags (BBQ supplied by Don). 3 weeks ago we had a swim in the lagoons and they were still warm so bring bathers just in case. There are still lots of people swimming in the ocean as well.

For those who prefer to make a day out of it there is;
Bribie Island Community Arts Centre, 191 Sunderland Drive, Banksia Beach, Bribie Island QLD 4507.
Bribie Island seaside Museum, 1 South Esplanade, Bongaree 4507 opens at 10am until 3pm, we were all intrigued by their plutonium glass collection.
The Butterfly House 206B First Ave, Bongaree, Bribie Island, Queensland also opens at 10am on Sunday and closes at 4pm. I would only visit the Butterfly house if it is Sunny as the butterflies are way more active.The Bribie Island Surf Life Saving Club is good for lunch, we also like Pigface for Fish and Chips. Both in Woorim.

Hi Ben,
Yeah it has been quite a while since we last had a run along the beach or a sunset sausage sizzle. A shame the inland track isn't open yet, but the beach late afternoon is the nicest part.
We'll be there - probably with Hayley and Chelsea in the back seat. I'll have the stove, table and tomato sauce with me.
Thanks for organising this - now if the weather will just play ball.
Cheers,
Don
