So driving home the suspension was a bit clunky. Had a quick look and the shocks and noticed that there was play in the top mounts. After a quick search on the Internet and found that they have been installed wrong (bloody amateurs).
Of course the lock nuts were lock-tighted in and would not budge. I ended up using Greg's suggestion of a tie down strap and some rubber around the shock and was able to get them off. Got the extra washer out and took the family for a drive. This was Jane's first ever drive in it.
I then started checking over everything else. The next thing on the list was the fuel filler opener. The cable has stretched over time and the fuel flap would not open. I suppose she's so economical it hardly ever gets used!
After a bit of mucking around I ended up shimming the cable with some plastic spacers I scrounged from a broken printer (10 years ago). Will have to fuel it up one day.
The interior lights were not working working and this was an easy fix.
Other jobs to be done:
* Earth for one spot light is broken
* The turbo time mount has only one screw
* Need a new air filter. The 'Cruiser has a dash indicator light for when the air cleaner needs cleaning. I like that feature.
* The power aerial doesn't work.
* Need a new light for the glove box.
Before I finished I topped up the battery and now have it on charge.
The spotties have been fixed, various rattles have been repaired. Now using the sub tank (will have to replace the fuel filter soon just in case). Also fixed the turbo timer mounting.
The light in the glove box has defeated me so far. No power is getting to it. Cut-out switch is Ok. The Gregorys manual does not have the glove box light in the wiring diagram, so It's hard to trace it back. Next time I pull the dash apart I'll give it another crack.
I pulled the over boost sensor out and checked it. It does switch at about the required pressure, but I can't be sure as I was just using my track pump and the pressure readout was not too accurate. I think I'll need to make up a better tool for the job.
The UHF, diff breathers, power points, brake controller and battery isolator have been stripped out of the Lux. Did it all in one night (much easier to get it out then put it in!).
Had a look at the diffs on the cruiser. They have diff breathers on already that raise it up about 30cm. The more I look over this car the more impressed in the detail of the design.
Well, had the dash apart tonight with the intention of fixing up the cigarette socket (which was only giving out 9v) and adding another Anderson socket for the DVD.
I found out that the cig socket had an odd problem. there is a wire that connects a couple of metal plates. This has been bashed and was semi broken. So I eventually got the old wire out and made a custom replacement. That's all good.
I found two lights that weren't connected properly so I fixed that up as well. Then got the DVD power plug in.
I got a air, oil and fuel filter set from East coast 4wd. They were Sakura brand which is OEM fitment for a lot of brands. I can recommend east coast 4wd as they are well priced and they do good cheap prompt delivery.
