Trip across the Simpson Desert and to Ayers Rock

Hi All,
I didn't want to put this in the calendar section yet, but I'm thinking of doing a 2 to 3 week trip across the Simpson Desert (maybe the WAA line), and then onto Ayers Rock.
Timeframe - Assuming my kids are not that interested (no rollercoasters or beaches in the Desert), then I was thinking of going early June. The days should not be too hot, and the nights not as cold in Aug or Sept. The amount of flies should also be a minimum, and it's outside the rainy season.
Though the Simpson desert can be crossed in 2 days, there are lots of interested places to see on side tracks. From TV shows (like 4WD TV) that have numerous episodes about their Simpson Desert crossing, it's easy to spend 4 or 5 days in the area. And then possibly another 2 or 3 days around Ayers rock.
Would anyone else be interested in a 2 to 3 week Simpson Desert trip? Would you have some other preferred timeframe?
Dave.
