Toowoomba day trip 20th - 21st Septmeber

Post by Dalmatian »

Sorry to everyone else who missed out on one of the best trips all year.

We had a great time 4wding at murphys toady and yesterday. It was so good that we had to do it twice in one weekend. If you missed out, i feel sorry for you. But there is always next time.

On Saturday, Alan and son and Tim met up in Toowoomba. Drove out to Cabarlah and aired down. Right at the start there are 4 hill climbs to get you warmed up. Easy – medium – hard – CRAP!

Didnt take too long for something to go wrong. The rear lights in the GU’s arent very secured.. :P After a duct tape fix we moved on down the track to explore the extreme hill climbs. Tried walking it but it just kept on climbing (another day for sure). Moving on again to another track where the chicken tracks are still rated pretty difficult. Had a look and decided not to take a risk of panel damaged. (another day for sure) - that day was SUNDAY

Third obstacle we came to was a rock wall. Steep near vertical angle. Looks can be deceiving tho.
Continued on to do a loop, which only happened by accident. We didn't know where the tracks were going to lead us, so we kept turning left. Found the creek bed and then an exit point which proved to be quite a handful if the wrong line was picked. After a few attempts the gq made it but the gu needed winching just to keep it safe.

Wondered around for another hour or so and still many more tracks to explore...

TODAY SUNDAY..

Ben rounded up the courage to try out these tracks with the handy guide of Tim and trusty new gps devices.
We meet at the usual spot in tbar. Then after a few modification we were off to cabarlah to air down. WE, being the pros that we are, chose not to waste time warming up and little hills. Dive head first into the good stuff.

Little bit of road building was required to save breaking stuff. Im not going to give you much detail, You just have to come experience it for yourself.

We ending back at the boat ramp were the gq came close to rolling quite a few times. Strange tho, was able to climb it yesterday but not today. Reversing out was a challenge of its own. And of cause the 80 series had no issue climbing the ramp, made it look easy.

WE found some great tracks that we didnt do due to lack of time and weather change. would of made it very interesting if the heavens opened up. :S

Great weekend by all.
Just a few photos where taken, ive added a link to see them. hope it works.

Great day Tim, Thanks.

I don't know what all the fuss was about with the "Boat Ramp", first go, no problems!

This is the big boulders we went down. A bit of road building was required, along with some really steep angles, but we made it OK.

So Ben, did you try that hill (at the 1:31minute mark in the video above)?

We drove by Murphey's creek on Saturday, and were thinking of Tim going out there to test the tracks. But we kept driving for the another 700km before setting up camp at Carnarvon Gorge. And then it rained, and rained, and rained, and rained, and ... then it was morning, and it rained, and rained, and rained, so we packed up and come home (passing Murpheys Creek in the dark).

Tim, I pointed out your car under the car port as we drove by. It looked far too clean. :P

Yeah I did that hill as well. Lets say that my style differs from Tim's a little bit. I just wacked a locker on and literally idled over it.

So are you back in Brisbane now? There must have been a lot of rain!
