Moreton Island Camping Trip

Troy, Toni, Killarnie and Ashley, Karen, Carlos, Stephanie and Ray, Cheryl and Shane and Arie and Myself all met aboard the very busy Micat for a Moreton Island Adventure ("Escape the fake" - oh no, the marketing is getting to me) on a beautiful Saturday morning. We were all commenting on how the BOM never gets the weather right as a few showers were predicted.
There was some very precision parking going on

It wasn't long before we were seeing the "Girrafes" of the Port of Brisbane and the city starting to disappear behind us

Here are the attendees on the top deck enjoying the view

As we approached the wrecks on Moreton, we were starting to worry that the BOM might be right for once.

After landing, we headed to Ben-Ewa to set up camp (after watching Shane spin his wheels for a while before remembering to lock in his hubs). It was a great little spot, just north of Tangalooma and tucked in off the beach enough to stay away from the strong winds. Just after we all set up, there was little shower of rain to settle the dust.
After lunch, we decided to head north, up the western beach. The beach was great, plenty of room to drive, with occasional bypass tracks which were nice and firm packed until you had to get off it for passing traffic.

The vehicles at five hills look out

And some of the view

This track took us to North Point and a highlight of the trip, for the girls anyway. I will let them tell you about the "Chap(s)".
From there we headed to Qld's only stone lighthouse at Cape Moreton. It was a great little walk in the late afternoon with the western sun lighting up the lighthouse as well as the surrounding sandstone (not pictured). Boy was it windy though.

It was then an interesting run down the eastern beach to Middle Road. The beach was starting to quickly disappear, and few splashes of salt water were had (the comment did get passed - "lucky Ben's not here"). It was then back home for the campfire and dinner and a few little showers of rain. Nothing that lasted too long though.
Sunday morning saw us head to the "Desert" where we saw some sand boarding from a distance. It wasn't long before the majority of the group were heading off to climb the dune.

After this, we then headed for a little drive down the beach south of Tangaloma for morning tea. And this is where we parted ways, with myself, Arie, Troy, Toni and family heading back to the ferry to return home while the lucky others headed further south to explore the island as they had another night up there sleeve.
In the end it was a great trip. Only a little rain, and it didnt cause any problems except for a few wet tents to pack up. Thanks for floating the idea for this trip Troy and Toni and to everyone for a good time. I am sure I put on an extra kilo or two with all those goodies being shared around.
