Give a libran a tyre choice

Yes I was born with the Libra star sign so choices are always difficult for me.
What do people recon is the best tyre option for my GQ UTE GVM around 3000kg

Option 1
• Buy 5 or 6 x 32x11.5R15 tyres Coopers STT Pro (6=$2190) or BFG Muddies (6=$2070) - these are the same size I currently have.
• Will the tyre companies phase this tyre size out? I only have small choice now.
• With the mags the car looks good

Option 2 – Total ($2395 -$2225)
• Buy 5 new 16inch steel rims ($500)
• Buy 5 new 265/75/16 tyres Coopers STT Pro($1895) or BFG Muddies ($1725)
• Big Gains in load ratings and many more tyre choices
• New rims won’t look as good
• slightly narrower, Similar Outside Diameter, a little easier on the car.

Option 3 Total ($2916 –$2780)
• Buy 4 new 16 inch rims ($400)
• Buy 4 new 265/75/16 tyres Coopers STT Pro ($1516) or BFG Muddies ($1380)
• Buy 4 new 32x11.5R15 Cheap road /sand tyres to go on the current Mags ($1000~) Maxis Bravo AT 980 $249 each
• Can use road tyres for daily stuff and keep the muddies for trips and the Spares would be the 2 of the Steels or Mags depending on which set were being used as they are the Same or similar outside Diameter
• Will I get sick of Changing them?

I am favouring option 1 but option 2 may be better if I use the car a lot for touring.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Gary

When I bought my MT/s I also kept my old set of AT/s to use on the beach. The AT/s sat there unused (Not even once) for well over a year before I sold them as they take up a lot of room.

My 20c worth

Interesting options. My 22cents worth (due to inflation) would be to stay with the 16" tires. It makes it easier to find spares. But then again, it's so unlikely you would blow 2 tires on any trip.

I'd go with option 1. You don't need to keep with the "flotation" or "imperial" sizing necessarily. You can find an equivalent metric size.

Changing tyres is way too much wasted time. Just get muddies and keep them on. :-)

Finally I have made a Decision.

I am getting six 16x8 Steel Rims with six 265/75R16 (32x10.5) Pro Comp Xtreme MT2 Mud Terrains similar to the style I have now. This gives me 2 good spares of the same type and new ones. Only one thing worse than putting a bald spare on in the middle of the desert and that would be not having one to put on.

I will test them out for a while then try to sell the mags I currently have to try and recoup some money. I did get a really good deal for all 6 as the company honored a previous quote I got just before a big price rise. All up $2400

Ouch but hopefully will be worth it.

Advantages with this option was:
Price
got 2 spares
Tyres have greater load rating 123Q
Tyres are 3 Ply side walls
Tyres have a 10 ply rating where as tyres for 15inch rims are only 6 ply rated
On 16 in rims and with 32 inch tyres I have much more tyre choice
Steel Rims

I Pick them up Wednesday 4th nov

Thanks for all the inputs they all helped.

Gary

Great to hear about the choice you made. All sounds very logical.

With two spares now, you'll probably never get a flat now.
