Kimberleys 2012

Post by dipmaker »

Well there is so much to tell but I cannot resist starting the trip report with a poem from our club and noted poet, the very gifted and talented Mrs Karen Box. (and she is a good nurse too, I know because she performed surgery out in the bush on my foot) anyway here it goes.

KIMBERLEY 2012

“Let’s meet in Dalby for the trip to start”
Four vehicles, eight people, adventure in our hearts
The first day it was raining and the temperature dropped
No more rain to be seen and that days’ kilometres never topped

We drove through The Maranoa and The Channel Country
On up to the border of the Northern territory
We saw Wild life, some sad life and birds in their glory
There were a few mishaps but that’s another story

The Plenty H’way was great! We bush camped off the road
The corrugations were ferocious - saw us checking our load
The Tanami isolated, rough and dry
Sunset and Sunrise we heard Dingos cry

It’s now I must mention the Dust was abundant
It billowed around us The Smell became Pungent
But we all soldiered on to the end of each day
When happy hour came and washed some away

On to Western Australia, we forged to Wolf Creek
where we caught up with old friends - gave each other cheek
Halls Creek, then to Broome where the Pearls are all grown
Cape Leveque and Derby in a plane we were flown

Over Horizontal Waterfalls, wet lands and dry
A sight to be seen but feeling SICK in the sky
Mornington, Charnley, El Questro, Home Valley
We stayed at them all and ticked off our talley

The landscape was spectacular, escarpments ,gorges abound
And if there was water? in it -Allan was found
The sunsets should be mentioned as beautiful and calm
The road stretching for miles- the size of these farms!

We drove and told stories, drank beer and some Rum
For six weeks in The Outback we had lots of fun
But now at The Bungles, its time to say Bye
Make our own ways to home, “How good holidays fly!”

Kimberley 2012 was a special event
lots of laughter, photos, memories
GOD IM SICK OF THIS TENT

This is only a start to the trip report, there is still when time permits much more to come such as the amazing scenery, the dust, the twelve thousand k's covered, the blown brand new Cooper ST Maxx tyres, smahed rear windows, the dust, the rocks, the happy hours each evening, the campfires, the dust, the wayward gas bottle, the flaming stoves, the limp aerials, the dust, the automatic opening camper trailer at 100kph and the dust. And one thing I nearly forgot to mention, the great travelling companions we had. Thankyou to Karen and Allan, Lynne and Trevor, Hanneke and Paul, and Chris and Les for making this trip something that I will treasure and have fond memories of for many years to come.

Steve.
