Bribie Island day Trip - 27 Oct 2012

Post by Dave »

The 5 lucky groups to make the trip were :
  • Ben & kids
    Allan and Tim,
    Ben and Mariana,
    Scott Brynwin and kids,
David (sadly with no kids this time - due to a halloween event in the afternoon)
As Dave was indicating we are aiming for some recovery practise, we didn't drop our tyre presures as we started heading up the Northern Access track up the middle of the Island. A few soft spots were encountered, but we had no problems reaching Proverty Creek camp ground. We then continued on for around 10km up the Northern Access track. Dave was looking forward to the soft sandy section, saying "there are usually a few cars bogged there". This is where we would practise our recovery techniques. Yes - wheel speed did not equal road speed in many places.

Ben and Mariana kindly volunteered to bog their vehicle. A bit of digging for gold, lower tyre pressures, and use of "treds" (similar to maxtrax) didn't free the vehicle on the 1st attempt.

So a bit of snatching practise was next. Well done guys. And then we had to get around the broken down vehicle on the track.

And yes - we were not the only ones to get bogged.

Dave went to help snatch out another vehicle, only to discover they had no front tow hooks, and a lock on the tow ball .... with sign of a key (what key?). So a little more digging and maxtraxs got this vehicle going. Dave then used the maxtrax too to get going again.

After a lunch break at the end of the track, we drove up the beach for a quick look at the remains of the old Forts, and take a chance for a photo of our vehicles on the beach.

Then onto the "1st lagoon", parked the cars, and off for a swim before too many clouds came over.
Image

Due to the cloudy wether, the lagoon wasn't as warm as it could be, but still not too bad. The lagoon was full, but still fairly shallow.

After a run across the sand, it was time to cool down in the ocean.

We eventually continued south on the beach to reach sealed road again. It sounded like everyone had a great time.

A great day (I'll post some pictures up later), thanks guys.

Hey BCF have TREDs on special for $199 - after seeing how well they worked yesterday I'm off to buy a set.

Cheers,

Scott

Thanks everyone for a great day, we are already looking forward to another trip. Very generous of you Dave suggesting that Mariana and I "volunteered :shh: " to get stuck but still glad to do my bit so everyone could get a little practice digging. A few photos of the day follow, not sure how they will come out as its my first time uploading.
