7 Mile Diggings 13/14 August

Post by dipmaker »

Yet another great weekend was had up at the Yarraman area.
Attendees were: The Jackson five in the mighty 80 series, Brian in his Colorado, Kylie and Cameron in their shiny brand new :o colorado black ute (With their brand new camper trailer) and the Dippies.

We found some good tracks, not too difficult but interesting at the same time and I am sure that all who attended had a great time. As usual with all Breakaway trips drinks around the campfire on Saturday night were most enjoyable.
This area definitely needs more exploring.

Thanks Ben for leading another top trip.

One of our first obstacles, but we conquered.

That river crossing was a beauty. Not for the depth of water but for the access to the water. The floods had moved some huge trees across the track and they had been sawed away a bit. After a lot of road building we got everyone across.

We setup camp at the Yaramman camp site right next to the fire pit again.

But they didn't leave anywhere near enough firewood for us. No matter Steve soon fixed that!

The tracks leading up to the creek crossing got progressively smaller and smaller until we were eventually on an un-maintained rough track. It was another great track a there was often the washed out (or rocky) hard line with a bypass track around it.

We got to the creek we stopped at the last time we were here and broke out the gold panning gear. We all found about half kilo of gold each and can all retire. The kids and the dog had a good time splashing about and providing entertainment while we dreamed about what to do with our fortune.

The next day we explored around Benarkin state forest. The tracks here were in good condition except for our good friend Lantana.

And here is a video of the crossing. It was just a bit tight getting into the river.
