Freshwater (Cooloola Coast) Jan 26-28

A beach trip is planned for the Australia Day long weekend, 26-28 January at Freshwater camp ground on the Cooloola Coast.

Low tide on the Saturday is about 2 pm. There are two different ways to reach the camp site - by the beach from Noosa or along Freshwater Track from Rainbow Beach Rd. I had thought that we could head up through Kin Kin and the Cooloola Way and then onto the camp site via the Freshwater Track but I have not yet been able to find whether the road has reopened (another victim of the 2011 Flood). I will hopefully have a chance to poke around this weekend as I am heading up that way. We then have the afternoon to explore the beach and go for a swim if the weather is suitable.

On the Sunday we have the option of playing around on the beach some more or heading back to the Tolara State Forest to see what we can find there, and then continue along to Harry's Hut. Then retracing our steps back through the forest or head back across the barge at Noosa and drive up the beach to the campsite.

Time - 8:45 for 9 am departure
Costs -

$5.45 per person per night for camping - booked through the NPRS website

Vehicle Permit - $10.70 per day or $26.80 for weekly (cheapest option if staying for the 3 days)

If the Noosa car ferry is used - $6 one way, car and trailer $12-14 depending on length

The camp ground has toilets and coin operated showers ($1 for 4 minutes). There is water available however it needs to be treated before drinking. The camp site is back off the beach out of the wind. Further information can be found at http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/coolo ... mping_area

There are currently plenty of tent and trailer sites remaining, but as there are limited numbers it would best to get in early to avoid missing out.

Sorry I cannot make it as my wife has arranged camping at Mount Barney with her friends. Freshwater is one of my favorite camping spots I did the trip over Christmas and the dive from Rainbow to Noosa is stunning.

Hi Louis,

Good to hear from you again. I saw your other post about Moreton Is. I'm giving it a go myself on Wednesday. The weather looks good, so I'll book the ferry now. Expensive for us since they also charge by the number of people in the vehicle.

BTW - Great photos of the beach. You would have also passed the coloured sands. Below is photo from last year.

Trust me you will not be disappointed I was blown away it has been my best camping 4x4 trip ever but now I really want to try Fraser.

We won't be able to make camping this weekend as Victoria is a little too far along, however we might come for a drive for a day. Will let you know what our plans are.

We love this place. We usually camp on the beach but it will be nice to stay in the Luxury of the campground.
