Nerang National Park - 22 June

Post by cuboid »

Can you believe that the trip leader arriving 25 mins early is the last one there and has to write the trip report - unbelivable

It was just 3 families along for this trip
Ben, Jane and the 2 boys
Dave and his 3 boys
Arie and myself

We left Helensvale McDonalds just after 9 am, not really knowing what we would find, but expecting it to be pretty simple tracks. The map showed an all weather 4wd track running right through the middle of the park, so we knew we would get some sort of a drive, even though there was a little rain the day before. This track was in pretty good condition.

When we reached the end, we turned off onto some of the other tracks and things got a little more interesting. There were some steep descents down to some little creek crossings, shaley climbs and some quite overgrown tracks.

No, this is definitely not a Toyota descending from heaven

Ben almost fell in

All and all I thought it was a good day out. We didn't leave the park until after 3pm, and there were still a few tracks we did not get too due to the rain the day before.

Oh, and my Patrol now has it 1st battle scar - a scratch on the underside of the rear bumper. A few more of those and I might be able to concvince Arie that I need a new rear bar ;)

Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck.....

This was a really good day out. I was surprised at the varied terrains. There were some really good hill climbs as well as a couple of challenges.

Jane did get a good photo of the local wildlife.

The tracks were definitely better than I had anticipated. It was a good day out.

There were a couple of bushy sections that obviously seen too much traffic in recent times.

Though there were a few steep-ish accents that were fairly interesting, it was small creek crossing that offered the most challenge. There was a bit of a drop into the puddle (shown by the yellow arrow). And unfortunately a lifted Prado and a standard Patrol "just" scrapped on the rear bumper.

The new rear bumper protection on the Prado did it's job, and the bumper was untouched. Although, to exit the creek, I took the easy option and engaged the rear diff locker (not that I would admit that).

Oh, we did also pass some bee hives. I thought I'll share a few seconds of footage. Don't you just love the sound of the Bees (chickens???)
