Well, the weather forecast was looking pretty good, so it was all systems go for our first trip of the year.
Some of us "camped" at the Cheese's house on Friday night, where we also enjoyed an excellent dinner. Thanks Tim & Michele.
Saturday morning started a little gloomy with a few showers while we waited for the rest of the troop to arrive at Beaudesert, but it cleared to a fine, hot day.
Attendees: Cheese & Anita, Gary & Erin, Allan & Karen, Ben Jane & family, Greg, Mr & Mrs Dipmaker.
Just a short run to Scenic Rim 4x4 Park from here. Steve and I hadn't visited this park previously so it was all new tracks for us. There was a competition being held near the entrance, so we signed in and headed off. Most of the park is hilly, so we anticapated some interesting driving.
We mainly stuck with the "blue" or "one black diamond" tracks to suit all the vehicles along for the day.
We didn't start off too well, with Cheesy taking us "round and round the mulberry bush" a few times trying to find Liana's Run, which we eventually discovered to be very overgrown, so impassable.
After climbing for a while Greg, Gary & Erin headed down Gonzo Nose to find some more challenging driving but there was a comp in progress so they had to back track. We meet them near the intersection of Tour Drive 1 and Tour Drive 2, where the rest of us encountered a rather tricky little hill. Allan had a bit of trouble http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U73iFtYlbq8 but made it in the end with some helpful directions, then Dipmaker showed off to the camera with some fish tailing between rocks. Such a camera tart that one! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QLehQ9OPqg
There are some great lookout points along the tracks. Views as far as the CBD of Brisbane and a panorama of "The Scenic Rim". We chose one of these spots to stop for smoko. The cool breeze up there was welcome as the day was warming up. There are several grassy camp site around the park, but only one set of amenities near the entrance and office.
About 2pm we climbed up Amy Lane to have lunch and enjoy the view. Ben Jane and family headed off as the natives were getting restless. Axel was probably busting to get home to prepare for his birthday celebrations the next day. Happy 3rd Birthday mate. Hope you enjoyed your party. There were some black clouds gathering by 3.30pm so we decided to "make tracks", but got waylaid when we noticed a hill climb comp happening. We spent an awesome half an hour watching these "crazy chaps" before airing up and heading back to Beaudesert.
Back at the Cheese residence we enjoyed happy hour before a BBQ dinner and entertainment courtesy of Michele who had purchased balloons and directions for making balloon animals. Allan and Karen showed an amazing talent for this activity, but speaking for myself I think the vino consumed may have impaired any possible balloon creations from the rest of us. Around 11pm the heavens opened and it poured rain all night, so after breakfast it was decided to postpone the trip up Duck Creek Road to O'Rielly's and we will incorporate this into another weekend trip on the southside. We didn't realise how much rain had fallen til we were back on Mt Lindsay Highway. The creeks and rivers were racing. On our return home on the northside we saw that the entrance to our estate had been flooded in the morning as well.

Here's another video for you.

you should be able to see it in HD.
We had a great time there as well. Pretty decent tracks for their 'easy' tracks.
