Bellthorpe Day Trip - Saturday 3rd March

Post by cuboid »

Cos and I met at Woodford.

We quickly got on the road and before we knew it we were airing down at the day use area. Just before we started airing down, a group of 6 4wds rolled in so to do the same, so we thought we had better be quick to avoid getting stuck behind them. We did have time to check out the creek quickly though, it would be a good swimming hole.

We drove some tracks through the park, lots of up and down and creek crossings

We also came across quite a few fall trees. This one could be driven over, but required cutting and winching out of the way (I think Cos has a photo of this one)

We headed along a track that was a really steep decent. We decided to walk down to check out whether we thought we could make it to the bottom of the valley and reccy was well worth it. The track was exrtemely rutted and beyond our vehicles abilities. But boy was it hot and muggy as we walked back up the hill to our cars.

Over lunch, we decided that we would take the scenic route home through Mt Mee. So we started heading out of the park toward Sandy Creek. This brings you this sign.

Luckily Cos and I were both in Nisans, so we had no problem traversing this road and worked our way to Mt Mee. We drove through the park, doing A Break on our way. It was a breeze. We found a more difficult track on our way to the south that was a little more fun on our way to Laceys Creek Road, where I managed to get my self stuck in a creek while washing the underbody and had to use the winch for a second time. Mt Mee might be worth another trip soon for an easy day trip.

From there we made our way home through Dayboro.

Looks like another good trip. Nice photos Mark. Bellthorpe is certainly my favourite national park.

So, with the "Road unsuitable for all vehicles". Does that mean Nissans don't count as vehicles? Or does it mean you should only proceed if you are in a boat or something like that?

Thanks for doing up the trip report and for organising a fun day out Mark. Here's a couple of photos and a link to a video of the track clearing.

That was a good sized log. I can see why it had to be winched to the side.
