What can I say but IT WAS THE BEST TRIP EVER.
This trip was attended by Mr & Mrs Nedly and Nev only, which was a couple short of the expected 25+, though in fairness the weather reports for the weekend were less than favourable. Nev has been on a previous club trip to Janowen and is keen to join the club.
We arrived at the camp ground about 3:00pm on Friday. We had a really good run up from Brisbane, taking us a little over 2 hours for the trip, and that was obeying all speed limits.
We had a very nice afternoon and evening just sitting around talking and eating with the occassional glass of wine or beer.
Saturday morning was clear with a beautiful blue sky, no wind and quite warm in the sun. After some initial discussion on the pro's and con's of going to Eumundi we elected to stay close to camp and enjoy the quiet.
There had been a large number of cancellations for the weekend so the campground was very nearly empty, with no more than about 10 campers in the whole place.
Our decisions to stay close to camp was helped by the news that the sea would be running a 7m swell and that winds of up to 100km/hr were forecast. Apparently Fraser Island and tourist parks around Caloundra had been evacuated as a result.
We decided to stay and see what happened, besides, 7m swells sounded like it would be something to see.
There was a continuous stream of vehicles heading south along the beach as a result of the evacuations, which gave me something to watch, other than the sea, while sitting on the sand dunes drinking a can of the amber.
The foreast winds never arrived, there was little rain, just a couple of showers, and the seas were less impressive than anticipated, but at least it was relaxing.
The wind plus the condition of the surf did stop us from throwing a line in, but that wasn't a problem.
A little wind and rain on Sat night, but again nothing to be concerned about.
Sunday morning was oncs again clear with blue skies and warm in the sun, though it was a little windy. The tent and tarp were dry so packing was no drama.
We headed to Noosaville to a fish & chip shop we know where we can buy cajun calamari which is very nice and perfect for lunch.
The trip back to Brisbane was the best ever, there was very little traffic with NO delays, that's right, no delays. In fact it took us around 2 hrs for the trip back to Brisbane, unheard of.
Anyway, it was a good weekend, we had heaps of room, and did nothing but relax.
Les
