Mt Mee day Trip

Post by Dave »

With only 1 week's notice, the Mt Mee day trip still saw 10 groups show up for a drive. Meeting at the BP in Wamuran, we left promptly at 9:00am and made our way to Mt Mee. The lucky groups to come were :
  • The dippies
    The Jacksons
    Louis and Lucas
    Gilbert and Coby
    Ben and Melissa and kids
    Blue Lightning
    Steve and Yvonne and Simon
    Brendan and Rhiannon and Frosty
    Jonathan and Vicki
    Dave and family
According to the "Mt Mee Forest trail & drive map", we had a selection of easy, moderate and difficult tracks. Since the tracks were newly re-opened, most were navigated with ease. Even the virtually-famous "A-break" track rated at difficult didn't really challenge anyone too much.

There were some nice inclines.

And there were some nice valleys to negotiate (can you spot the two cars?)

Lunch was back at the Gantry. The kids were playing in the dirt, adults were making lunch, and the birds were watching closely. As in the photo below, there was a kookaburra waiting on a branch just above my head watching for his share of our lunch. And the camera phone has a very wide angle, so I only 15cm away with the phone when I took the photo. And the kookaburra reused to fly off. Other birds seemed to come very close to people as well.

More tracks were tested in the afternoon, and only then I remembered I should switch on the GPS tracking. Below is a low-res screen capture. Interesting to compare the track-log to the park map.

A few people then started to head for home, while the other half tested more tracks, and had a look at Mt Mee Rocky Water Hole, and Neurum Creek campground.

The BOM didn't quite get the "Mostly Sunny" forecast correct, but we only had a few isolated sprinkles throughout the day. On a whole, it appeared everyone had a good time. A big thanks to Steve and Kim for organising the trip.

Thanks for the prompt trip report Dave, some good pics too. Unfortunately most of the "fun" tracks at Mt.Mee are now closed but I still enjoyed the drive and hope every body else did as well.

Thanks for posting the video Ben.

The fast-forward playback is great to see a lot of footage in a short period of time. But have you conssidered adding one more "effect" into the video. At 2:19, pause the video, have the auto-aiming cannon come out of the bonnet, add an explosion, and then continue the video.

Ok - I'll explain the above. You're following that Ford (with the racing strip?), and at 2:18ish, you both stop. Then video appears seemless, but at 2:20, the Ford just disappears. A very cool effort.

I first tried playback at 16x but with all the bumps and turns it was painful to watch. This was done in 4x. I kind of have to speed it up and loose the sound as it's mostly the kids movies or even worse me talking.

I like the idea of a cannon, but, I know you won't believe this, I do have my limitations.
