Christmas party at Janowen Hills

Post by Dave »

Similar to last year, there was no shortage of moisture on the ground. Several people arrived on the Friday, and had their tents well washed down overnight.

The rest of the group made their way down on the Saturday, with some making a special effort to ensure they arrived before the Christmas dinner started.
Dinner was catered by the owners of Janowen Hills.

On Saturday morning, a group went out for a drive shortly after an early lunch. After only a few hundred metres, I found out why they call them mud tyres.

We soon stopped at a small valley, and attempted a very slippery include.
Some drivers had the right tyres, some the right vehicles, but others were just dog good drivers.

These vehicles without mud tyres certainly had a difficult time on some hills, and needed a winch for the steeper bits.

Some people found an interesting and potentially very dangerous slope. It good Mariana didn't see the Frontera's attempt to go up. (hehehe - I have the video)

Guys!!!! - not in front of the kids. Oh yes - that's right, there were a few pink shirt games organised by Cheesemaker.
Image

There was a competition to pull some cars. Adults verses some tiny kids. Yeah - the adults won (just).
Image

Cricket was next on the agenda
Image

A good percentage of the group. There seems to be a colour problem with the camera. Many of the blue shirts appeared pink.
Image

It was certainly a wet weekend, but it did clear up by Sunday morning.
Image

Some people were flying around the tracks, others just had flies.
Image

After dinner, a highlight was the "thieving secret santa" game.
Image

There were some good gifts being "stolen", but one was impossible to steal. The grip was too tight. But then his brother stole it anyway.
Image

BTW - it took me almost 4 hours to clean the car. The kids knocked off almost 29kg of mud from under the car before I started with the high pressure water cleaner. The grass now has a good 2 cm top dressing.

A big thanks to all the people who came along, including the guests who came along just for the dinner.
It was a great event even with the wet weather.

Thanks for the report Dave. It certainly was a good social getaway even the weather couldn't dampen the mood, think I may have to put some serious practice into my cricket before next year though.

Thanks Dave, sure had plenty of fun without having to worry about my my co-pilot, however my co-pilot is also my photographer so I have no 4wd super action shots to put up. The upside of this weekend is that im now on the lookout for a cheap rear locker, unfortunately roeos have different diffs but a Jeep (Dana 44 locker might fit). I do have a few pics of the afternoon activities id like to share.

Giving the kids a bit of a hand in the tug of war
Image

The obligatory camp fire
Image

Carting someone out of the park
Image

I spent almost a full day cleaning the car. The first pass was clearing out the mud under the car with a chisel. The most mud ever... more than Levuka.
Cheers Ben and Mariana and Indiana

Thanks for organising a great weekend Dave. Unfortunately Arie and I missed the games on Saturday but here are a few photos from the party

Some funky jewellery was worn to the party

And here is Louis carefully checking all the presents to make sure he picks a winner
Image

And finally he choose just the right one - he looks so excited
Image

He just loved his present so much and was so relieved that it was not stolen - enjoy those pancakes Louis.

And Sunday lived up to its name with the sun rising over the camp site - good bye wet weather
Image

And 2 Mavericks and a Patrol managed to get out for a little drive and had some fun at the play pen
Image
Image

And 12 hours of dry weather did little to dry out the tracks and I could quickly see why I will need to invest in some better tyres. I did not attempt this bog whole that Tim struggled to get through
Image

Thats it for the photos, but we did find a few more challenges and I even got to try my winch out on the tracks for the first time.
