Double Island Point Day Trip

Post by RegyRocky »

A Great day was had on this popular trip.

Well the day started for me getting up in the dark and as the dawn broke it revealed a lovely day. I left at 5am with a 4 hour drive to the starting point at the Tewantin Ferry. I met up with Mark, Arie and Arie's mum (sorry I am terrible at remembering names). The further I headed north the more clouds. We stopped and aired down at the Third cutting on to the beach. There was an on shore breeze and a bit of rain but was fantastic driving along the beach. There were so many cars and campers on the beach it was the busiest I have every seen it, apparently there was some Cooloola Cleanup Day happening. We stopped to look at some coloured sand cliffs and where the Kings bore track once lead down to the beach, and then a quick stop at Fresh water camp ground. The sand was wet and there was no concern at all about getting bogged. We headed to the Lagoon and past a Landcruiser bogged trying to get off the beach and this had us wondering why he got bogged and why he just didn't reverse back.

We enjoyed a nice swim at the lagoon and had lunch during a short break in the rain. We the day didn't lend itself to lazing around the beach so we headed to the newly formed sink hole at Inskip Point. The drive along the beach and some of the little inland tracks were soft to very soft and added to the fun.

We even saw dolphins in the sink hole.

Next we headed to the Kings Bore Track and we enjoyed some cruising through the lovely forest track most of which was easy with a couple of 4x4 sections. Was a very nice track. By this time the rain was getting quite heavy and we all decided to head back via the Cooloola way with a quick dip in the creek along the way.

The Cooloola Way was also excellent, a layer of soft mud was developing and made the driving very interesting and fun. Lots of car cleaning was going to be required.

We parted was at Kin Kin and an excellent day was had by all.

Thanks Mark and Arie leading this trip.

Gary

Thanks for the right up Gary.

Here are some more photos

There was a little track leading up from the beach that we explored. Found this sand canyon, it was before we got to Red Canyon

Yes the weather wasnt looking promising, but we did get some sun for a lunch time dip. Sorry no photographic evidence.

Hi Guys,

Glad to hear you still had a good day out. In Brisbane, I only got a small drizzle late in the afternoon.

That bogged Landcruiser ..... what series was it???? That was a good sized sink-hole too. I remember walking along the beach there.

A nice trip report, and great photos ......

Gary - did you end up doing some fishing, and if so, did you catch anything?

A certain blue FJ Cruiser would have loved to have been in those pictures. She loves the beach and she hasn't been there before.
Instead she was left pinning in a Bunnings car park all day waiting for me to finish work!!

Sounded like a terrific trip. Great write up and pics!

G'day Everyone

Dave, I decided not to camp as the rain was deterring me so I didn't end up doing any fishing. How did you go removing your fallen tree?

I am not sure what series the Land Cruiser was but certainly not old. I think their tyre pressures must have been too high and or not engaging 4x4 or something along those lines. You could have got a 2 wheel drive up there that day.

Yes Don It would have been nice to see the blue FJ in the pics collecting lots of sand and mud instead of wasting it's time sun baking in the Car park.

Mark, for some reason I cannot see your pictures on the site.

Bribie Island Lookout here we come!

Interesting. I must have had a cached copy. Now I can't see Mark's photos. But I did see then before ... and probably cached on my system. Hitting F5, the photos are now not viewable.

I have shared them from Google photos. It appears that it is not making the pictures public. I will have to look into it. Thought I was saving myself a heap of time by not having to upload them to Photobucket.
