Glasshouse September 2011

Post by dipmaker »

Well the rain held off for us and apart for the wind we had perfect offroading weather, not too hot and not too cold.
On Saturday morning with a total of twelve vehicles we headed up to one of the many powerline tracks where we split into two groups, one for the super adventourous and one for the sensible ;) people.
After a number of challenging tracks were conquered we headed off to the Glasshouse Mountains lookout for lunch.
The afternoon saw us tackling some more interesting tracks as one large group until conditions got too bad for some of the smaller stock vehicles so we once again split into two groups and this was where the fun began for a certain trip leader who's navigational skills have never been the best (I promise next time I will take a packet of breadcrumbs) anyway thanks to Mark and Arie we were able to backtrack to the main road.
There were quite a few recoveries carried out and even for somebody who had earlier proclaimed "I've never had to be recovered"Image

Saturday night consisted of a few drinks around the campfire and Sunday saw us heading out find even more tricky little tracks.

We had a great time. The camping location was fantastic as well! There was a heap of great driving and as Steve said a heap of recoveries. I even got to use the new winch.

This was Cameron coming through the spot when we had to split up for the second time. We had a choice of three bog holes to get through and they were all a bit difficult. Greg went through the one Cameron here got stuck on. I went through one that connected this and a side track. Diligaf went through the one on the side track. This one had not been used for a while. It looked OK and after a fair amount of prodding it with stick we all proclaimed that it was "easy". Well brave Diligaf jumped in and as soon as the rear wheels hit the water he was stuck fast. 3 or 4 goes at a snatch from Craig eventually pulled him out, but he was pretty stuck. That hole is now called Diligaf's billabong.

Here is Ranea heroically hooking Cameron up. Should have done this before hand....

On Sunday we started by exploring the back of Steve's place then headed into the forest.

We found a few good side tracks with a bit of erosion.

Funny how all the Toyota drivers jumped at the chance to take a photo of when the Nissan got stuck?

Kick a guy when he's down??
