Christmas Outing - Day 1 18th November

Post by Dave »

It was a bright sunny day when we ..... oh wait .... it was fairly cloudy, with a bit of rain when we met at Beaudesert. No one missed the new turn-off to the town centre, so the trip was off to a good start.

Don and Tracey then bravely lead us through the border ranges tracks. As we climbed the range, we quickly discovered why the vegetation was so green, and why this called a rain forest. Driving through some low level clouds, it eventually started to rain. Given that we were then in a daylight savings time-zone, Don lead us to a nice look where we stopped for lunch. Unfortunately it continued to rain, and the temperature dropped to 12 degrees.

I mentioned to Don that I saw Mt Warning, and I even took a photo. You can clearly see it in the photo below. It's right in the middle of the photo .... there is even a line pointing to it (yes - it's on the sign).

Anyway, we continued through some very scenic rain forest tracks, and the clouds/fog only increased the charm of the area. We then headed to Uki, where it continued to rain.

Soon afterwards, we held the club AGM, where most of the existing committee re-elected to their previous positions. One position is yet to be confirmed.

With the AGM over, attention was turned to the selection of meals for dinner. I think everyone found someone that appealed to their appetite.

Given that it continued to rain and the ground being completely saturated, everyone decided to just head off home instead of putting up a tent in the rain and camping overnight. But it was certainly a nice 1-day outing with great company.

Good trip report Dave. Here's a few snaps I took along the way.

This was the typical scenery we drove through.

We had a brief stop at a picturesque bridge over a creek

This was the best view we had at our lunch spot at Blackbutts viewpoint. We decided not to bother stopping at The Pinnacle to do more cloud spotting.

Thanks for leading the trip Don. It was good to get on some dirt roads again after a couple of months of no action. The car certainly looked the part with all the mud on it. I tried out the wash bay at our new place and it took me almost as long to clean the wash bay as it did to wash the car there was that much mud come off the car. I had to unblock the drain a couple of times before I could get rid of all the mud.

Hopefully it won't be another couple of months before we all catch up again.

Cheers,

Cos.

Great report Dave, and terrific photos Cos.
The Border Ranges certainly look different in the rain compared to bright sunny days!
Definitely worth a detour next time we head south to check out the scenery in the dry.
Cheers.
