Holden Frontera

Post by BenJancz »

This is how my fronty looked that day i bought it, pretty much stock standard except for a 2" lift.
Image
Fronteras arent huge so a Roof basket was installed (thanks dad), has come in very handy though and i could not go camping without it. I ditched the standard 29" wheels for some nice alloys and 30" BFG All Terrains

During the course of the year i installed some free wheeling hubs. The car has a 50mm suspension lift and manual hubs should save some wear and tear on CV's. I also had an ARB Bullbar fitted, last one in Queensland and one of the last batch ever of Frontera Bullbars. Interesting fact is that one of the owners of ARB drove a frontera for a while, not sure if he still does........probably not
Image
Finally i have put some rubber on the spare Rims i have. The Rims are 15" IFS Hilux SR5 alloys with 31" BFG Mud Terrains. Nothing scrapes or sticks out of the guards, however, i definately could not go any larger without some major work. 100% Stoked with this setup.

Next job will be to install an older model fuel tank behind the rear wheels improving clearance, just need to find one to measure up and ensure its a straight bolt in.

Hi Ben and Mariana,

YERY NICE

The bullbar makes it look really good, and the muddies are great. Looks like a serious 4x4 now.

Hmmm .... maybe a winch next? Tigerz11 have them on special for <$700. Did you have underbody protection? Then rock sliders, a snorkel, dual battery system, air lockers, ..... and then sell the car to buy a newer model and start all over again. hahahaha ... sorry

But the car looks really good now.

I promised Mariana i would keep it for 2 more years on the proviso that when times up I can get the 'ants pants' of 4x4's.
2 years is a long time to tinker with a car, who knows what it will look like. If I had my way.

I now know an 85 litre jackaroo tank will not bolt straight in, Still hopeful a SWB Frontera tank will be a straight bolt in.

I have been impressed with the hands free Bluetooth function of Marianas car and decided " I gotta get me one of those"

Anyway I got one of these
Image
And a 32GB one of these to store ALL of my (converted) CD's, and all of my favourite MP3's, infact it will hold 7000 to 8000 songs
Image
All together it looks a bit like this......well exactly like this, less the solder and cable ties and shrink tube in the background, I removed those.
Image
I also bought a din pocket to put the UHF in, its stuck in by Velcro. Less vibration, not going anywhere and I can still remove it if leaving the car outdoors which I rarely do.

My dual battery system has arrived, bought cheap off eBay because it had a sun damaged box.
By the look of the instructions I might need to get a degree in Automotive Electronics before installing it, although Baileys and Bourbon got me through the Digital Media Player Install OK.

I like the stereo! No-one uses CD's or DVD's any more.

One problem I have reading from a USB key on my stereo is that it is pretty slow to get the directory listing. When I had a full card it could take up to 30 seconds before the music started. I bet Pioneer does a better job than the no-name brand Chinese unit I have.

Wow the dual battery system has a LOT of wires! Can it launch rockets into space as well as charge the second battery?

The pioneer reads 6gb of music pretty much instantly, I will let you know how I go with 32gb on it.
Making a start on the isolator this weekend, I am thinking that 2 full days should be enough to install it.
