A couple of people have expressed interest in a day trip to practise driving on sand. The goal is to gain practical experience in what it takes to get a vehicle bogged in soft sand, and then using digging, traction boards, and snatch straps to free the vehicle.
Where: Bribie Island
Cost: Requires a beach permit. Log into http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au to book you permit online. A one month and one year permit is available.
When: Sunday 27th July at 11:15am for a 11:30am start.
Meeting Place: Meet at the BP Servo (BP, Cnr Goodwin Dve & Hornsby Rd Hornsby Road, Bribie Island QLD 4507)
UHF: Channel 13
Trip Standard: Green
Trip Leader: Dave
The Plan :
- Meet at the BP, and exit at 11:30am sharp
Travel to White Patch, air down, and enter the Northern Access Track
Travel north to the Forts Day Use area for lunch just after midday.
Have lunch at the picnic tables.
Here everyone can have turns getting bogged, snatching someone out, playing with tyre pressures, and use of max trax (all in non-salty sand).
Later that afternoon, either travel back along the northern access track to avoid any salty environment, or travel south along the beach.
Note - peak low tide on the eastern beach is around 3:30pm, so we should be able to travel in only "slightly damp" sand from 1:00pm from the northern beach.
Please let me know if you're planning to come along.
Cheers
Dave.
