Came across this today. It is an excellent guide to electrical joints in automotive applications and well worth a read.

Some very good info there but I have been told by a number of electricians that the current theory is not to solder a joint which has any movement (which virtually all auto electrical joints have) because it will lead to breakage where the solder finishes.

Yep, only crimp lugs, but for bare wire connections, you need to solder. I don't do much soldering as I almost always use lugs and they haven't failed me yet.

trick with soldering is to make sure the copper doesnt get too hot. Use thin, small solder that heats up quickly. A solder joint will never break its the copper that has been heated with no solder covering it, that will break. I.E the copper either side of the joint.

If the copper has discoloured during the heating proccess its too late. cut and redo
